Who Killed Lennox Lloyd?
Lennox Lloyd is the fourteen year old Ascott High student who was flung from a bus as it overturned in Portmore St. Catherine on May 29, following a high speed chase involving a bus, The Police and The Transport Authority.
The boy wasn't simply killed in another road accident. There were several irresponsible behaviour which led to the death of the child. If the police and relevant authorities were doing their jobs as they should've Lennox and other could have been saved.
The driver of the bus in which Lloyd travelling was found to have 85 outstanding traffic tickets; some fifty of them were for running traffic signs.
This means this man has had at least 50 opportunities before this accident to possibly cause someone's death. Now whose fault is that? What kind of system is so inefficient that a person can get away with such serious road offences?
Fast forward to Tuesday's incident; everybody is pointing a finger. Alleged eyewitnesses are blaming Transport Authority, The Transport Authority denying a chase, taxi associations not even addressing the fact that the driver did not stop and head of the police traffic department Radcliff Lewis denying eyewitnsses claims.
But it appears taxi and bus operators have no conscience. This is even more reason for Jamaica to move swiftly in regularizing the transport system because these drivers have the galls to drive carelessly then run from the scene of an accident when one occurs, usually unhurt. They protect themselves and if they are caught doing something illegal, because often times they don't own the vehicles, they act carelessly and let the owners take the heat. From exorbitant traffic fees and the seizing of vehicles the owners are bombarded with a lot.
Speaking of the drivers, not one of the association has condemned the driver's actions. All is being said is that the Transport Authority should not have chased the bus. I would not like to think they are, at this point using this incident as a forum to throw jabs at The Transport Authority in their ongoing tit-for-tat. By the way, what does the Transport Authority have to prove by chasing and successfully capturing a driver acting outside of the law? respect and reputation perhaps? Could they have been so reckless to chase the bus knowing over thirty children were inside? If the alleged eyewitness accounts are true, what will happen to those involved? After all the Authority is promising an investigation.
At this point I cant decide for you who killed that boy. It was Lennox Lloyd today but what measures will be put in place to ensure no one else goes like this?
Nothing I bet. Unless someone considered important is killed in a similar manner, it will be business as usual. Remember the JPS issue, it was not a problem until 'certain people' started feeling the pressure too. The law in Jamaica is appearing to be toothless. no clutches, meagre penalties and low standard. Why is this beginning to feel like a game of the nasty Russian Roulette?

why measure what's in the glass?
The optimist says the glass is half full and the pessimist says the glass in
half empty.
In fact it is the optimist who declares that one is a pessimist for seeing the glass as being half empty;
because one should rely on faith that whatever is in the glass will rise and not fall. I used to see the glass as half full too. Let me declare that I am by no means encouraging mediocrity, but what good is it doing to kill yourself over things you really cannot control? I was constantly in a position of wondering when the glass will be full.
You are in a job and it’s not six figures but it's paying the bills but you figure, it is nothing to marvel about! I just graduated University why should I accept this salary? I am bright and young and full of ideas, why am I not one of the lucky ones?
Well sweetheart (taps on shoulder); YOU ARE ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES! There are thousands of people who go through Universities and two or three years after, Students' Loan Bureau is riding on their backs, they are itching, hoping that their faces and names are not published in a paper saying they owe money; money they can’t repay because they have never held a job a day since they forked up thousands to participate in a graduation ceremony as a final send-off after years of study (if they are lucky enough to be able to afford that either).
So you are unable to save a dollar from your salary, but you can pay your bills and get to work until the other pay check is ready! So what? The frustration of sitting home and sending out piles of application and not getting at least a call back is more heart wrenching than to be in a job getting what money cannot buy, EXPERIENCE!
I am not a motivational speaker by profession, please don’t be mistaken and my rant may be due to insomnia.
But it would be sad to know there is someone out there who is stressed because everywhere they turn is another road block. No job, no signs of any around the corner and it just seem nothing will happen!
I have been there! At one point I sunk so deep I went to a doctor and slapped myself down on his desk and could've fallen asleep there. He says I was stressed, and suggested I stop worrying and get some rest. This was all because I was not satisfied with the glass being half full. I wanted it to OVERFLOW! That's when I say I will adjust my mode of thinking and just start by giving thanks that something is in the glass. A better job came eventually but everyone will not have similar luck at the same time!
So you sit there and say your glass is half this or half that is putting additional and unnecessary stress on yourself. Be grateful! If the job doesn’t pay, at least there is something in the glass. PRAY and BE THANKFUL for that. If you are unemployed, guess what? you are still employable; Again, there IS something in the glass.
Stop measuring what's in the glass! Just be grateful there is something in the glass, because once you begin to measure the amount in the glass it is a sign that what you are accusing the pessimist of, you have become, DOUBTFUL.
And if after all my rambling you still feel there is nothing in the glass, hey! CHIN UP! YOU STILL HAVE A GLASS!

I implore you to open a gleaner on a
SUNDAY and go through the classifieds. Take a look at the job section.
Most employers require 5 years experience and a RELIABLE MOTOR VEHICLE! I used to get real
stressed because I could not afford a flashy car and a house and honestly I
still have my episodes! I still feel down and not wanting to leave my bed for
no good reason. However, I have always gone to work unless I was genuinely
sick. I am not a motivational speaker by profession, please don’t be mistaken and my rant may be due to insomnia.
